Lesser curve necrosis following proximal cell vagotomy for gastric ulcer. A case report.
A case of avascular necrosis of the lesser curve of the stomach following a highly selective vagotomy (HSV) for a gastric ulcer is reported. It is fortunately rare, but is a frightening complication. The necrosis, which is presumably ischaemic in origin, is caused by total devascularization of the lesser curvature of the stomach. The complication is usually diagnosed late and has a considerable...
متن کاملLocalized avascular necrosis of lesser curve of stomach complicating highly selective vagotomy.
The fourth case of localized avascular necrosis of the lesser curve of the stomach after highly selective vagotomy is reported. The pathogeneses was probably related to the relative poverty of the submucosal blood supply along the lesser curve. This complication may be prevented by peritonealizing the lesser curve before closing the abdominal wall.

among the most significant advances in the medical treatment of these conditions in the history of medicine. These facts must be weighed against the extremely rare instances of these relatively minor epidermal reactions. Rashes are not infrequent in hypertensive patients taking methyldopa, while 1 in 5 patients treated with the latter develop a positive Coombs test and 1 in 500 go on to develop...
متن کاملMinimal access surgery--the renaissance of gastric surgery?
Peptic ulcer surgery has been revitalized by the introduction of minimal access techniques for surgery of chronic and perforated peptic ulcer. A wide range of vagotomies, including truncal vagotomy, anterior lesser curve seromyotomy with posterior truncal vagotomy and proximal gastric vagotomy, have been performed laparoscopically. Short-term (two-24 month) follow-up of laparoscopic anterior se...
متن کاملgastrin in duodenal ulcer before and after vagotomy
Biopsy specimens have been taken from five standard sites in the stomach and from the duodenal bulb in order to investigate the association of gastritis and duodenitis with duodenal ulcer. Twenty patients with chronic duodenal ulcer were investigated in this manner and in addition had gastric secretion tests and a radio-immune assay of serum gastrin under differing conditions. The patients were...
